Onboarding Methods

If you are a new customer, you will identify an onboarding method or methods for members to join your Raftr community during the implementation process, if this is not already established in your contract. For example, your contract may include a custom integration for your members to join Raftr via single sign-on (SSO) or it may specify other onboarding methods for your community.


Raftr is a secure, authenticated platform, so there are several ways that Community Admins can choose to onboard new members to Raftr. Community Admins may choose more than one method for onboarding members or use a different method for onboarding different community members. Your Success Manager will discuss the onboarding options available to you and help you strategize the best method(s) for your specific community.



 


Email Domain-Based Registration


With this method, new members create an account on Raftr, or self-register, by using a unique email domain like that of your university or workplace (e.g. otter.edu). Anyone with an email address under that domain (e.g. [email protected]) can register themselves with Raftr using this method.


 


Admin-Created Accounts


Admin-created accounts are similar to email domain-based registration, except that a Community Admin(s) creates an account for a member vs. that member self-registering for Raftr. Community Admins who choose this method typically do so because new members who are “pre-registered” for Raftr automatically receive an email from Raftr making it easier for them to activate their account. Raftr can also provide support with creating accounts for new members, so please contact your Success Manager to explore our full-service onboarding option.


With this method, Community Admins can create an individual account or multiple accounts by uploading a list of members’ information on the web platform. Community Admins also have the ability to send emails to an individual or multiple members reminding them to activate, or “claim” their account via the Admin Portal.

Registration Codes


Registration codes are a secure method for communities where members cannot easily be authenticated by an email domain(s) (e.g. otter.edu). This method is generally used for communities that don't share an email domain, like those for admitted students, alumni, parents and families, or associations. With support from Raftr, Community Admins set custom registration codes that are either one-time use for an individual, or reusable by multiple members. Registration codes are role-specific, so different codes can also be set for one or multiple roles, such as staff or student. 


 


Single Sign-On (SSO) Verification


For customers who request a custom single sign-on (SSO) integration as a part of their contract, members will need to verify their account with existing SSO credentials. For communities with SSO enabled, our “smart” SSO onboarding flow will automatically direct members to use their SSO credentials when creating an account, verifying an email address, or logging into their community. 


Community Admins can determine if users can create accounts themselves with their SSO credentials or whether they must be created for them. 


If both email domain-based registration and SSO are enabled for a community, members can either create a secure password for Raftr or use their SSO credentials when creating or activating their account. Each time they log in, they can search for their community to sign in with their SSO credentials or select “Password” to sign in using their secure password.


If only SSO is enabled for a community, members must use their SSO credentials when creating or activating their account. They must also use their SSO credentials to log in.
