Creating Extensions

Extensions are a powerful tool that allow you to integrate all of your existing technology and resources into a single hub on Raftr. They are exclusive to the Community page, so you must have the proper editing permissions to enable these integrations (if they are available in your community).


Creating an Extension


To create an Extension, you must use the web version of Raftr. Select the +Create button on the top right header section or the "add new" (+) button at the bottom of the Home page. Find and select Extension from the menu of options. From there, you can fill out the details of your Extension. Include a title (this is the label that appears on the Community page), a link to the tool or resource, and an image. All of these fields are required. Once you have selected Create, you will be given the option to edit the Community Page to add your new Extension to a section now or wait until later.


Adding Extensions to Your Community Page


Once you have created one or more Extensions, you will need to edit your Community page (or one of your Department Pages) in order to access it. Go to the page where you want to add your Extension and select the pencil (✏) icon. Choose Edit Community page (it might be called Edit [department name] page). To add your Extension(s), you can either create a new content section or edit an existing section. Note: You cannot create a new Extension from the Community page Edit view, so create your Extensions before you start. 


Add a New Section


  • Open the Edit view for the Community or Department page.
  • Scroll to the "Create New Section" options and select Content.
  • Give your section a title.
  • Where it says Choose Posts, open the dropdown menu.
  • Choose either Manually Selected Posts and/or Extensions (if you want both Posts and Extensions to be included) or Manually Selected Extensions (if you only want Extensions in the section). 
  • When you see an option to Add more extensions, select that box to view a full list of all of the Extensions created in your community. 
  • Click on any Extension to add it to the section. If you don't see the Extension you want, you can search for it in the search bar or scroll to the bottom of the list.
  • Once you start selecting Extensions, you will see a preview of the section, then you can select Save when you are done. 
  • Add an optional map or location to your section, and once it is complete, select the Save button. 
  • Use the down arrows to rearrange your sections. 
  • Don't forget to save your final view by selecting the Save button in the top right corner before leaving the Community page!


Add to an Existing Section


  • Open the Edit view for the Community or Department page.
  • Scroll to the content section you want to update.
  • Select Add more Extensions to view a full list of all of the Extensions created in your community. 
  • Click any Extension to add it to the section. If you don't see the Extension you want, you can search for it in the search bar or scroll to the bottom of the list.
  • Once you start selecting Extensions, you will see a preview of the section, then you can select Save when you are done. 
  • Don't forget to save your final view by selecting the Save button in the top right corner before leaving the Community page!


Editing Extension Sections


To edit an existing Extension section, open the Edit view for the Community or Department page by selecting the "edit" (pencil, ✏) icon on the menu. In addition to adding new Extensions, you can also remove or rearrange the list by selecting the "more” menu (...) icon to the right of the section. To remove an Extension, select Remove content then click the red icon in the top right corner of the Extension you want to remove. To rearrange the order, select Reorder content, then click and drag the Extension cards to your preferred order. Make sure you save your section and save your Community page before leaving to a new page. 


Editing or Deleting an Extension


Only the original author of the Extension can edit or permanently delete it. To do so, go to a Community page section where the Extension is visible (you do not need to be in the Edit view). Select the "more” menu (...) icon that appears when hovering over the Extension card. Choose to edit or remove the Extension. Keep in mind that removing it is a permanent action. If you want to restore it, you will need to create a new one from scratch. 


Using Extensions


Unlike editing or adding Extensions, anyone in the community can use them by simply clicking or tapping the Extension card on the Community or Department page. If using the iOS or Android mobile apps, the Extension will open directly inside of Raftr. If using the web platform, it will open in a new tab or window.
