Customizing Your Individual Raft and Channel Notifications

Advanced Customization Settings for Raft & Channel Notifications

Use Raftr's advanced customization settings to update your notifications preferences for a specific Raft or Channel. This allows you to mute or reduce the number of notifications you get from an extremely active or irrelevant Raft or Channel, or to increase how often you get updates from a Raft or Channel that you manage or that's important to you. 

Learn the basics about your notifications and how to mute everything at once here. 

To update your preferences for a specific Raft or Channel, navigate to that Raft or Channel and select the Information (i) icon in the top right of the header. That will open up the Information menu for the Raft or Channel. In the menu, you will see the Notification Preferences section. 

These same preferences are also accessible from the Raft page of the mobile app. Select the Information icon at the top of the header.

NOTE: Accounts created before April 26, 2022 may have different default settings than the ones listed here. 

Raft & Channel Chat Preferences

Select Chat to update your notifications related to messaging. This is available for all Channels and any Raft that has Chat enabled. 

Mute Chat Notifications

Use this toggle if you want to mute all message-related notifications for a Raft or Channel, including new messages, replies, and reactions. When you turn on mute for chat, you will be able to choose a duration for how long chat notifications will be muted from the following options: 

• One hour
• Two hours
• Until tomorrow – No notifications until 9:00 A.M. the following day
• Until I turn it back on – Mute your notifications indefinitely
• Custom – Allows you to set your own end date and time

(NOTE: Muting notifications in the app only changes your personal notifications and does not impact notifications for members in Rafts or Channels that you manage.) 

Notification Preferences

If you want to have more control over your new message notifications but don't want to fully mute everything, you can choose from the following options to receive message notifications at your preferred frequency. 

• All New Messages – Receive a notification for any new chat message
• Only @mentions and @everyone – Receive a notification only when you are tagged directly in a new message in a group chat or someone uses @everyone to alert all members of the group
• New Activity Bundled – Receive a single notification after a specific number of new messages are sent in a single hour. The frequency options are:
  • 25 messages in an hour
  • 50 messages in an hour
  • 100 messages in an hour
  • 150 messages in an hour
• None – Mute all new message notifications (NOTE: You will still receive notifications for reactions and replies unless you choose the full mute option.)

For most Channels, your default frequency will be a notification for each new message, unless you decide to change it. However, that is not the case for large Channels with 250 or more members. For those groups, your new activity notifications will be bundled unless you change this setting yourself. 

Unless you have a Raft or Channel set to "none," you will always be notified when someone uses @ to mention you in Chat, or uses @everyone to notify all members.

As a Community Admin, using @everyone is a way to make sure your message is viewed, especially in Channels with a lot of activity, since all notifications level except fully muted will be alerted to your message. 

Posts and Events Preferences

Select Posts and Events to update your notifications related to all non-messaging Raft content. This is available only for Rafts, so you won't see this section for Channels. 

Mute Post and Event Notifications

Use this toggle if you want to mute all notifications for Posts and Events on a Raft. When you mute a Raft's Posts and Events, you will be able to choose a duration for how long those notifications will be muted from the following options:

• One hour
• Two hours
• Until tomorrow – No notifications until 9:00 A.M. the following day
• Until I turn it back on – Mute your notifications indefinitely
• Custom – Allows you to set your own end date and time

Notification Preferences

If you want to manage your notifications about Posts and Events without fully muting them, or you want to receive updates about all new content on a Raft, you can choose from the following options to have more control over these types of notifications.

• All New Posts and Events – Receive a notification for all new Posts and Events on the Raft
• Only Posts and Events From Users I Follow – Receive a notification when there's a new Post or Event from someone you follow, but no one else
• Only Admins' Posts and Events – Receive a notification when there's a new Post or Event from a Raft Leader, Co-leader, or Curator, but no one else
• Only Posts and Events from Users I Follow and Admins –  Receive a notification when there's a new Post or Event from either someone you follow or a Raft Leader, Co-leader, or Curator, but no one else
• None – No Post or Event notifications from that Raft

By default, you will only receive notifications for Posts and Events from Raft Admins and people you follow. 

Viewing Your Custom Preferences

To view a full list of all of the Channels where you have advanced custom settings enabled, open your main Notifications Settings screen (learn how to do that here) and open the Messages section. There, you will see a full list of all of the Channels where you have customized beyond the default settings. This will include Channels from all your communities.  By selecting any Channel on the list, you will go to that specific Channel's notification settings, so you can view and update those preferences.

The same goes for Posts and Events. Go to Your Memberships on the main Notifications Settings page for the app and you'll see a list of Rafts where you've customized your Post and Event notifications in all communities. Select a Raft to view and update the specific settings.
