Raftr offers both direct messaging (private chat between you and one other person) and group messaging. You can find your personal messages from the DMs button on the left sidebar on the Web platform or on the bottom navigation bar on iOS or Android. You can create a new message by selecting the +Create button on the Web platform or the add new (+) icon at the bottom of any Raft page, Channel page, or the Home page.
If you choose to send a message to someone who is not yet following you, it will be sent with a request for you to message them, which they will need to first approve before your messages show up on their personal messaging inbox. If someone has sent you a request, you will find it at the bottom of your personal messaging inbox or from the "More menu" (...) button on the Home page.
How to Create a Direct Message
- Create button ー On the web platform, select the +Create button on the screen header, then the Message option. You’ll see a list of suggested people you may want to send a message to. You can use the search feature there to find the right person.
- Member profiles ー On the web platform, if you click on someone's profile image, you will see an option to message them directly. If you are following someone on any app version, including the web, and you go to their profile, you will see a Message button and a checkmark (if you tap the checkmark, you will stop following them). Tap that message button to send them a direct message.
- Personal messaging inbox ーOn the mobile apps, when viewing all of your direct messages and personal messaging groups, select the add new (+) button at the bottom of the screen to create a new message.
Direct messages (DMs) can be sent to anyone in any community you belong to in Raftr, so if you belong to multiple communities, you don't need to have the same active community as someone to send each other messages.
Updating Your Notification Preferences for Direct Messages
In addition to customizing your notifications for Rafts and Channels, you can also customize your personal chat and DM notifications. It works exactly the same as updating message preferences for a Channel. Open the DM you want to adjust and then select the Information (i) icon to open the menu. Select Chat under Notification Preferences to mute, reduce, or increase the amount of notifications you receive from that specific person or group. The DM conversations you customize will also be available in the Messages section of your overall Notification Settings screen.
